OUR DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT

Rev. James W. Moore began his tenure as District Superintendent on July 1, 2007, succeeding Rev. Mark Chatterton who completed his term and was re-appointed to Middletown UMC in Connecticut. Rev. Moore, or Jim as he likes to be called, previously served the Hyde Park UMC, beginning in 1997. His previou​s appointments were Warwick UMC from 1982 till 1997, and the 4-point charge of Callicoon, Hankins, Fremont Center and North Branch, from 1976 until 1982. He is a graduate of the Boston University School of Theology.

Jim is the oldest son of Hanna Moore and Rev. Richard Moore, a pastor in the New York Conference for most of his career. Richard died in 2002 and Hanna in 2006. Jim and his wife Holly were married in 1972, the summer after they both graduated from Hope College in Michigan. They have three grown children: Rebecca, a recent graduate of nursing school who lives with her husband in nearby Port Ewen, NY; Jonathan, a librarian in Reading, PA; and Katherine, a high school music teacher in Wisconsin. Holly recently retired after 20 years of teaching elementary school. She is currently serving as the District administrative assistant, but is also interested in retreat leadership and spiritual direction. She serves for 5 weeks each summer as a program director at Kingswood, one of our NYAC camps.

As a parish pastor Jim Moore was especially interested in preaching, worship, and music, and he hopes to find some ways to apply these interests in his work as a superintendent. In his spare time, he enjoys singing classical music, playing golf and tennis, hiking and camping, and simple woodworking projects.
